“The Stoic Registry is the oldest and the original Stoic community of the Internet, founded on the 8th of May, 1996. The purpose of the Registry is to bring together all those who are Stoics and who wish to be known by the commitment they have made.” -Erik Wiegardt
Our founder, Erik Wiegardt, started the Stoic Registry as an expression of the cosmopolitan nature of Stoicism. We are proud to continue his work and keep the flame of Stoic philosophy alive in the modern era. We believe that Stoic philosophy, in all its forms, is a testament to the reasoned principles upon which Stoicism was founded. It is our wish that your visit here provides a small step on your path to greater happiness and tranquility.
With respect and gratitude,

Less Stuff, More Life
As many know, Stoics believe that the only good is virtue. Physical things, social status, and even personal health are considered “indifferents” as they are not necessary for us to practice or attain virtue. Stoic Pathways
Eudaimonia
The goal of a Stoic is to reach a state of well being known as Eudaimonia. This is done through self-mastery, attention, and virtue.
Cosmopolitanism
The Stoics believed in a universal empathy that spanned the entire cosmos. As a result they believed that we were all part of universal city state.
Stoicism 101
These are the basics, what Stoicism is, where it came from, and why presidents, authors, and soldiers have used the ancient teachings to face the challenges of life.
Following Nature
The motto of the Stoics is to “Live in accordance with Nature”. It is the way that Stoics understand their place in the world and what happens to them.
Modern Stoicism
Modern Stoicism is a movement to update Stoic Philosophy for the modern age. It focuses on the ethical portions of Stoicism while minimizing or eliminating the metaphysical aspects.
Traditional Stoicism
For the Traditional Stoic, logic, ethics, and physics are tightly interwoven and interdependent; none of the three can be removed without damaging the philosophy.
Stoic Practice
No one is born fully realized in rationality and virtue. We all must devote effort to becoming a Stoic. Luckily, there are exercises to practice and heroes to emulate.
Declaration
We believe there is personal power and freedom in declaring oneself a Stoic, with a commitment to self-improvement and accepting one’s nature. If you are ready to declare, we are ready to celebrate!
Reason and Emotions
Stoics are not unemotional contrary to common use of the term ‘stoic’. Instead, Stoics honor the reasoning process, formed from both cognitive and emotional information, to make excellent, wise choices. Handling strong passions, however, can lead to a life of more tranquility and equanimity.
